For many, Labor Day marks the final hurrah before the onset of cooler temperatures; a chance for a quick getaway, the last opportunity to pack in as much summertime chillin before autumn sneaks up. I’ll be spending mine channeling the spring Chanel show with a group of friends at a farmhouse up north. Eating, drinking, boating, horseback riding, antiquing, campfires and fortune tellers await…but what to pack in my weekender to bid adieu to summer 2010?

Oft-inspired by Garance (perhaps that should be a category of its own on this blog?), I’m dying over her post detailing banished fashion terminology.
As an avid reader and writer, I’m bombarded with an endless supply of words and phrases I’d like to take behind the barn and beat with a shovel. Obviously, I’m not immune, I break my own rules as often as I follow them, (what don’t I “heart”?) but I like to think Atticus is not your average fashion-forward friend. I’m not going to insist you “can’t live without” something or “need it now,” because really, if I’m promising this, there are some bigger issues at hand. I’ll drone on and on (and on) about what I love and why I do, but the rest is up to you to carve out for yourself. And as my dear friend/mentor/style advisor/Chanel 2.55 benefactor says, at the end of the day, we’re not digging ditches. After, all, it’s just fashion.
But for a bit of fun, here’s my list of phrases I’d like to stop seeing:

We’ve been on an elated high since our Raleigh Denim event. A torrential downpour on Friday the 13th eventually turned into double rainbows (literally!) and Sarah and Victor’s visit was brilliant, amazing, insightful and the most fun we’ve had in a very long time.
We delighted in showing them around town (meaning we took them to 3 of the only 3 places we ever go) and Victor even dropped his own version of deep thoughts: “It’s better to make too little and have it all gone than to make too much and have left overs.” Word Victor, word. While we were at it, we even managed to sneak in an interview question! Without further ado, the one and only question I ever ask:
If your style had a soundtrack, what would it be?
“The National, Gayngs, Rosebuds, Megafun, Caribou and of course Kayne and Jay-Z.”
You heard it here first. Thank you again to everyone who shared the fun: everyone who attended, the incredible staff at Graze, our sick dj, our lovely photographer and of course Raleigh Denim.
Best friend bracelets coming soon guys!

The online source for all things cool, Refinery29 has long been my go-to for staying on the pulse of fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Recently, it seems we’ve been inspired by the same people. Check out their new series “My NY,” to find out where Atticus faves like Charlotte Ronson, Philip Crangi, Steven Alan and Alice Temperley hang out in New York.

It’s official. We’re in love. If we could carve our names next to theirs on a tree, we would. If we could shake your shoulders and tell you how amazing this is, trust us, we would.
Raleigh Denim designers, Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko, are coming to Atticus, Friday, August 13, from 4–8 pm. They’ll be on hand to chat denim and personally fit and style you in your next favorite pair of jeans. Even though Victor tends to act a little like your mom because inevitably, he’ll ask what you think of the rise, you’ll be blown away by their brilliance and sheer dedication to crafting straight-forward, impeccable denim.
Hand sewn on vintage machines, with selvedge woven on the same looms that churned out original Levis (the couple set up shop in the company’s abandoned warehouse), Raleigh Denim sources all materials from within 200 miles of their home base in North Carolina. Their signatures of hand-made tradition are infused in every pair, literally. They sign every piece produced, because they “want people to know that every single pair is made by real people.”
You can check out event details and RSVP on facebook. And unless you want Shari to eat all of your delicious cookies from Graze, I’d try to show up early.

Chatting photoshoots with my girl Amanda over dinner last night (pork belly for me and a whopping 1.5 deviled eggs for her) sent me spiraling into the crazy cat-lady, housewife with an edge vibe, specifically this Vogue Italia shoot copped from theglossy.com. Even as a sordid cat-hater, (but I swear, the one I accidentally trampled this weekend was an accident!) I can’t get enough. The insane technicolor and radiating desperation really speaks to me. Go here immediately and check it out.

We had plenty of time to get cozy at the airport.
An extremely turbulent, hand-hold inducing plane ride followed by a few nerve-calming greyhounds at our favorite establishment, and Kiki and I were ready to face 15 appointments packed into 3 short days. We swooned over seasoned favorites like Rag&Bone, Simon Miller and Billykirk, while scoping out up and comers we can’t wait to add to the Atticus family. We drank 27 pitchers of margaritas (it was 90 degrees!), hustled our way through the city exchanging our usual angel/devil roles and thanks to generous friends, found enough room in our cozy guest bed for a gigantic box fan.
Not even a rerouted flight and 9 hour rental car ride from Indianapolis could squelch our excitement. Luckily, we can’t spare a second pinning over our New York love because we’ve got orders to write and an incredible party to plan. As always, stay tuned!

Thanks to a ridiculous amount of rain shutting down the Milwaukee airport and stranding my sister overnight, I got the opportunity to raid her closet this morning. Today I’m wearing:
-Charlotte Ronson Pleated Shorts
-Basic black tank
-Trovata Viola Tank
-Dolce Vita booties
-Assortment of House of Harlow, Giles&Brother and Erica Weiner jewelry
What are you wearing?

An ADD-afflicted procrastinator’s dream come dream (or worst nightmare), we stumbled across svpply.com because a darling member posted an item from our site.
Hailed as a “retail bookmarking and recommendation service,” svpply is an infinity of beautiful objects, satiating our desire to be constantly surrounded with the exquisite, while simultaneously evoking unparalleled lust. We can either quit our jobs and take up dredging the depths of online retail or simply visit the site’s edited to perfection offerings. It’s invitation only exclusivity only makes us want it that much more.
So what do you say, svpply? We’re not trying to put a ring on this finger, but how about a drink and we’ll play it by ear? If say, an invite were extended to bekah@atticusshop.com, we promise to make it worth your while.
